About Us
Developed by John Viega, Chalk is an open-source project that addresses one of the most pressing challenges in modern DevOps - visibility.
Initially inspired by a series of close conversations with engineers and their organizations, Chalk is a response to the challenges introduced by increasingly complex, dispersed, and siloed nature of the development environment. Time and time again, participants in these discussions voiced frustrations about the difficulty of determining code provenance and deployment. When problems arise, establishing who owns code, how it has changed, and where it is deployed is simply too time and resource-intensive. John set out to change that. To do so, he created Chalk.
Chalk launched in 2022 and has since grown and evolved, eventually becoming a central component of the Engineering Relationship Management platform Crash Override. Crash Override uses Chalk to facilitate complete code-to-cloud visibility and create a Single Source of Truth that unifies DevOps data, processes, and people.
Firm believers in the value of open-source projects, the Crash Override team is committed to maintaining Chalk’s open-source status and encouraging community engagement.
